JUST DO IT

My house mate Og and I were in my room one Saturday afternoon when an idea popped in. I immediately shared my thought with Og. After we talked about the possibilities of the project, we prayed a short prayer, took out our pen and paper and started planning. The idea was to feed Tunde’s friends and the other children in that area (more about Tunde in “Plight of an African Child” post). I put a call through to a highly efficient and creative friend of mine to make the poster for the outreach. We called some other people to know what we would need to make this plan a reality. As far as I was concerned, it was Game On.

LESSON 1: When you have an idea, share it with like minds ONLY. When you decide to take up a challenge or task, don’t stop, don’t settle and don’t wait. Team work is very powerful and produces impeccable results.

Og and I had to be very proactive about the plan and we had to depend strongly on God because truth be told, we were quite broke at the time.

LESSON 2: Don’t allow your account balance limit your thinking. Even if your account is running low, keep thinking big.
Being broke is a temporary state which will pass. A friend once told me to voraciously feed my dreams and starve my distractions.

I must also mention that we had written a long list of friends who were going to get involved and support the project. The funny thing was that just about 3% of everyone on the list contributed or showed up.  Rather than get petrified as resources were crawling in, we told God that if anyone was to be disgraced, it would be Him because the project was for the glory of His kingdom and not my glory. So we didn’t even worry, at least not me. All I knew was that I had peace of mind which was certainly a good sign. By the third week our account was still very red.LOL!!  laughing at the devil.

LESSON 3: Man may disappoint you but Almighty God will never. If you work with and for God, he will work for you and through you.

Long time ago, I learnt and have remained faithful to practicing a certain prayer point “Lord let my help come from where I least expect it”, that was my testimony. Strange people sent in their donations and very few friends which I wasn’t bothered about. In no time we were ready for the outreach. We had all our needs met with zero stress and struggle.

LESSON 4: When God instruct us on what we should do, He supplies in abundance. Don’t suffocate God with your unbelief.

On the 6th of May, I saw the hand of God. We were able to distribute the food and flip flops to the children.

Coincidentally, the children were also vaccinated as they took their packages.

In all, it was a huge success.

Meanwhile, my birthday celebration was lit. Tunde  came visiting and we went to the beach. Remember to share your thoughts in the comment box.

THE PLIGHT OF AN AFRICAN CHILD

It was a sultry Thursday afternoon. A certainly good time to take a cold shower. I had just finished  my CDS which is the community development service. Walking out of Mapo hall, I noticed over a dozen children sitting on the floor, dirty looking with no flip flops on. They gazed at the NYSC members hoping to get money or food from us. I just couldn't move a step further after I saw these children. I approached them and asked my friends to go on ahead. "Hi guys", I said to them. "Why are you not in school?"  It was just 1:15pm so it was logical to say they were at the wrong place at the wrong time. Like a chorus, they replied, "Ko si Owo" meaning no money. I became more interested since I was told there was free education in Oyo. If you know me well enough, you should know am my own ambassador for a better Nigeria. I tried asking them more questions  and they told me  they usually pay 3000 naira in government schools so it was not totally f...

RELENTLESS

An enabling environment was all I needed. I had prayed and envisioned working in an enabling environment during my service year. I needed a place that would give me the space to grow and nurture what I loved to do best. On arrival to Ibadan the ancient city, I made a list of all the functional media houses. Those who know me, know my personal statement “BE DELIBERATE ABOUT YOUR SUCCESS”.  I obviously didn’t know anyone in the city nor did I have money to waste on paying anyone to get me a slot in a media house. All I had was God and a very strong will. I had gone to the secretariat to commence my registration process when we were all told to return in three days. It was one of two things, to sit at home and wait for fate to take its cause or I could take delibera...

MY CAMP EXPERIENCE

At that point,my heart felt like it had stopped and my mouth was left ajar. I had just logged into the NYSC(National Youth Service Corps) official website anxious and not knowing what to expect since I registered late.During my first registration, I got an exemption letter which is like the name implies, an exemption from NYSC. It took me 2weeks and a few days before I realized my records on their system had 1964 as my year of birth.(Ikr). Finally my Call-Up Letter was ready. As the page fully opened, my eyes fell right on the STATE OF DEPLOYMENT: JIGAWA STATE. Actually, I had invested so much time praying about my NYSC year. For some reason I was at peace. The strange thing was that Jigawa was not even part of the 4 states I picked during my registration. In any case, I wasn't  going all the way there without doing my research.Well,I discovered that from Lagos to Jigawa by road was between 21-22 hours approximately. Then by air, there isn't a straight flight from Lagos ...
