Lady I's Pity Party.......

Hi fam, it’s been quite a while on here, my sincere apologies. Hopefully,  this post will explain the reason for my long silence. So really, if you’ve never ever consciously or unconsciously slipped into a pity party mode then you definitely deserve a  Speed Darlington   award.                                                                                                                                                 My Story That weekend, I was home alone since my sister and friend Oghuan had to travel out of town for a while. I laid on the couch in the sitting room initially enjoying the serenity/”home aloneness” if there is a word like that, which made me switch swiftly into a mode of introspection (heart search/meditation ). Gradually I had gone so deep in my thoughts when I felt tears trickle down my cheeks and had at this point increased appreciably. Next thing I know, am sobbing so badly and for some reason, I knew I had lost control of my

YOUR BRAND INFLUENCERS

We are the CEOs of our lives which is our first multi-zillion company and a brand in itself. So we have the liberty to hand pick our stakeholders (Mentors), our departmental heads ( Inner circle/friends), staff  (acquaintances) . Each individual is a brand of his own. These people would in the long run, influence a lot of your life's decisions and direction. They have a way of determining if your brand which is you in this case, will sky rocket in a couple of years from now or nose dive. Are your brand influences actually friends or heavy luggage that sap you of your last ounce of strength, motivation and the zeal to lead a most productive life?  Am not going to give you  LadyI's guidelines to picking friends, but I can tell you a bit about my friends and mentors. My mentors are those who look like the tomorrow of me that I see. Also, while learning from them, its not mandatory to do exactly all they do in cases where you find faults.

MY WATERFALL/ MOUNTAIN CLIMBING EXPERIENCE (OLUMIRI WATERFALL)

Hey lovelies…..it’s been so long since my last write-up, but I promise to make it up to you via this post.  The Sallah break was a really long one for me and so I had to plan an adventurous trip with my colleagues from work and my housemate turned sister. Surfing the internet, I found Olumiri Waterfall Erin Ijesha in Osun state. I strongly believe you would like to visit after this piece. So I wanted a low budget holiday trip which would also be fun.Being the camp leader and the adventurous mama as friends and family  call me, I made a list  that would accommodate the transportation(fueling) , gate fee, carpark fee and feeding for four people, excluding the drinks. At the end of the day we all contributed less than #4,000 each while we used one of the available cars. We also didn’t plan on sleeping over  so it was basically a one day exploration.  It was a two hours trip from Ibadan with the help of google map and a speed limit of between 80km/h and 120km/h. The map

RELENTLESS

An enabling environment was all I needed. I had prayed and envisioned working in an enabling environment during my service year. I needed a place that would give me the space to grow and nurture what I loved to do best. On arrival to Ibadan the ancient city, I made a list of all the functional media houses. Those who know me, know my personal statement “BE DELIBERATE ABOUT YOUR SUCCESS”.  I obviously didn’t know anyone in the city nor did I have money to waste on paying anyone to get me a slot in a media house. All I had was God and a very strong will. I had gone to the secretariat to commence my registration process when we were all told to return in three days. It was one of two things, to sit at home and wait for fate to take its cause or I could take deliberate steps to channel my faith in the direction of the result I wanted. I decided to approach all the media houses I had penned down and ask if I co

My Third Mainland Bridge Fishing Experience

(Lady I paddling the boat) If you are still doubting , let me help you. Yes I used a paddling/ engine boat on Saturday, paddled the boat (see the video on my instagram page @ubani.Irene) and fished directly under third mainlandbridge. (Lady I directly under third mainland bridge )   I must confess yeah, I made sure I didn't tell any family member except for Karen my elder sister who immediately  kicked against it and actually thought I wasn't  going to do it until I sent her the pictures. On seeing the pictures she said "I have always known you were not OK" (Successful catch) (Under third mainland bridge bridge) The major question all my friends asked me after the wild adventure was "Really Lady I, but why?" I choose to live carefully but not too careful that I miss out on the fun life has to offer. Overtime, I have learnt to face my fears heads on just to ensure it doesn't have the best of me and rob me of great opportunit

JUST DO IT

My house mate Og and I were in my room one Saturday afternoon when an idea popped in. I immediately shared my thought with Og. After we talked about the possibilities of the project, we prayed a short prayer, took out our pen and paper and started planning. The idea was to feed Tunde’s friends and the other children in that area (more about Tunde in “Plight of an African Child” post). I put a call through to a highly efficient and creative friend of mine to make the poster for the outreach. We called some other people to know what we would need to make this plan a reality. As far as I was concerned, it was Game On. LESSON 1: When you have an idea, share it with like minds ONLY. When you decide to take up a challenge or task, don’t stop, don’t settle and don’t wait. Team work is very powerful and produces impeccable results. Og and I had to be very proactive about the plan and we had to depend strongly on God because truth be told, we were quite broke at the time. LESSON
